Bodum french press in 3D

I've been trying to improve my 3ds max modelling and V-Ray texturing skills...made this Bodum Coffee press....(it's the small 350ml BISTRO NOUVEAU model) As always you can buy my 3ds max/vray model here :P

just wow 2

I am loving these 3d renderings of the 2010 Ford Mustang , by speedshape . Rendered with 3ds max and V-Ray: But when it comes to paying out my hard-earned cash I think I will get one of these instead: Now that's badass!! (2010 Chevrolet Camaro, 3d rendering also by speedshape, 3ds max/V-Ray)

Free xfrog trees from Autodesk

There are free xfrog trees available here: ( click ) (Props to Autodesk for the free stuff and to V-Ray forum user Rerender for the link) They are in .max file and come with standard 3ds max materials and leaf/bark/flower textures. I converted one to use V-Ray materials and rendered it out:

Links to free 3D furniture models as supplied by manufacturers

There is a list of links for free 3D furniture models, as supplied by the official manufactures on designconnected: ( http://www.designconnected.com/en/catalog/manufacturers_3d_pages/official+Manufacturers+Free+3D+Models ) I've only had time to check out one of the links on that site, and that is for http://www.moroso.it/ They have incredible real- life products, and they also have free 3d models of most of their products. The files are available in .3ds file format (3D), .dxf format (2D) and archiCAD format (3D). I downloaded the .3ds file for a product called "Around the Roses" (It's a collection of tables, although only one version of the table is supplied). The geometry seems fine as you can see in this screen shot below: However there are no textures included, so you will have to do some research and sort those out yourself. Here is my V-Ray render of the finished product: (I did modify the mesh a little) All in all, a handy list of links to have

V-Ray for 3ds Max 2010 is released (1.5 SP3a)

V-Ray 1.5 SP3a for 3ds Max 2010 and 3ds Max Design 2010 is now available from the Chaosgroup website: http://chaosgroup.com/en/2/downloads.html V-Ray 1.5 SP3a also contains some fixes to the original SP3 release wich was released a few weeks back. New builds for 3ds Max 2009 are also available from the download section. Builds for 3ds Max 8, 9 and 2008 will be available soon. This is good news for me, seeing as I'm still using Max 2008. Sheeesh, its only April 2009 and already Autodesk has released 3ds Max 2010. Talk about planned obsolescence/forced consumerism. They aren't even trying to engineer our consent any more. Screw that, I will just keep using 3ds Max 2008 until my PC: falls over from old age, forcing me to re-install it or possibly replace it, or busts into flames like my old mac did Either way, I'm sorely tempted to get rid of Max altogether and move to Blender or something else - after all V-Ray does work with Blender ... Maybe I am just being touchy about g

Playsam Streamliner in 3D

I made this 3d model and rendering of a Playsam Streamliner - testing out the VrayBlendMtl, to try and get a clear lacquer finish on the wood. I think it worked out quite well... The real-life toys are great - check them out ( here ) My 3ds max version is ( here )

3D Viagra

3D product rendering, just for fun - 3ds Max 2008 and V-Ray 1.5 SP3 get the model here ( link ) :p

The VRayOverride Material

Peter Guthrie has a post on his blog on how to use the Vray override material - it's a great way to check the overall colour balance and lighting of your scene, especially if you are using HDRI lighting. It's quick and easy too. ( link to PeterGuthrie.net )
