VRayProxy grass tutorial

Olivie Charbonneau has posted an excellent tutorial on how to make realistic grass renderings with V-Ray at evermotion.org I am personally using VRayFur to make grass, as in the image below, but I think Olivie's technique looks excellent, especially the little flowers - I must try it!

Studio Clouds for 3DS Max 2010

Alice Labs' Studio Clouds is a plugin for Autodesk 3DS Max 2009/2010 that enables you visualise and edit point cloud data inside 3ds max. (Point clouds are 3D datasets of information scanned using LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) aka High Density Surveying (HDS). Millions of points are scanned from a 3D object or terrain and stored using this method. This plugin makes it easier for you to work with all that data. Give it to me - I wanna try it out! (The Radiohead video for "House of Cards" was made using this technique )

The third & the seventh arch viz videos

Alex Roman has created these inspirational, fully CG architectural visualisation videos, using 3dsmax, Vray, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere. Very different from the usual arch viz stuff I see, and come to think of it, very different from the arch viz stuff I make :) I like Alex's approach very much - very cinematic. More info can be found at his website: http://www.thirdseventh.com/ T&S Teaser 1 from Alex Roman on Vimeo . T&S Teaser2 from Alex Roman on Vimeo . T&S Teaser 3 from Alex Roman on Vimeo .

A study in greens...

The legendary Neil Blevins has some great educational resources on his website ( http://www.neilblevins.com/ )I've learnt a lot from him and I really enjoyed his article on the use of color (A Study In Greens, Variety in Your Colors), which can be find here There is a maxscript called RandomMat that goes with the "Study in Greens" article on his site, here He also has a whole host of Autodesk 3ds max techniques, scripts, tips and tutorials on his site. Fluid Simulation in RealFlow 4 beginners tutorial

There is an introductory tutorial on how to use Realflow 4 with 3ds max on cg.tutsplus.com. I have to say that there is a desperate need for this kind of tutorial as learning Realflow can be a real biatch! (Realflow is a standalone fluid and dynamics simulation software package, that can import import and export 3d data to various other 3D animation packages, e.g. Autodesk 3ds max, Maya, Cinema4D, Lightwave, Houdini etc.) Click here to go to the tutorial on cg.tutsplus.com. Here is my own early attempt at using Realflow :P Realflow 4 and V-Ray liquid simulation test from JG3D on Vimeo .

3D car modelling tutorial (nurms)

If you are interested in learning how to model a car in 3D, (and which 3D artist isn't?), follow the link to a good tutorial by wide3d.no It doesn't show you how to make the entire Nissan GT-R (R34), but it does give you a very good description of the techniques used. Once you understand the techniques, you should be able to finish the car on your own.

Structure Synth V1.0

Structure Synth V1.0 has been released. I have to be honest, I'm not exactly sure what this is - from the Structure Synth website: "Structure Synth is a cross-platform application for generating 3D structures by specifying a design grammar. Even simple systems may generate surprising and complex structures." Whatever that is, it sounds pretty rad, so I'm going to download it and play with it this afternoon. Get it for free here: download (versions available for Windows Xp/Vista, Linux and Mac OS 10.5)
