VRayProxy grass tutorial

Olivie Charbonneau has posted an excellent tutorial on how to make realistic grass renderings with V-Ray at evermotion.org I am personally using VRayFur to make grass, as in the image below, but I think Olivie's technique looks excellent, especially the little flowers - I must try it!

Autodesk 3ds Max hair and V-Ray test animation

Autodesk 3ds Max hair and V-Ray test animation from JG3D on Vimeo . This started out as a test of the 3ds Max 2010 built-in hair&fur solution, rendered out with V-Ray SP3a, but I got a bit carried away with the Psytrance audio. (Thank you Mike :)) Movement is very jerky, but it gives me an idea of what is possible. Next I will add motion blur to the hairs... Music by Skazi & 40% - Smells Like Homus Spirit

Honda RA-X 3D concept renderings

I'm loving this Honda RA-X concept by Xuacu Pérez! It looks like the spawn of an intimate encounter between a 2009 Honda Civic Type-R and a Lotus Exige, with the offspring being put on an intensive workout and training program! It manages to be puposeful, angular, lithe, muscular, distinctive and graceful all at once, a bit like an olympic sprinter or a hot female tennis player...I'm thinking Maria Sharapova, Dominika Cibulkova, Serena Williams, but I digress... Xuacu designed the car in Rhino and used V-Ray for Rhino and Hypershot for the renderings. Check out more of his work here

Autograss

Autograss is a new plugin for 3ds max and V-Ray that creates photorealistic grass. It looks pretty sweet to me, especially the feature that allows you to manage the RAM usage of your PC. A quote from the Autograss website : " Autograss uses Happy Digital's advanced memory management system. That means Autograss uses only a fixed amount of RAM no matter how much grass is in the scene, whether it's a one-acre lawn or an entire golf course. No crashes, no nonsense. And it's fully multi-threaded, so all your cores are driven to their full potential." Sounds good! LOL@"Happy" Digital :) There are builds for 3ds Max / 3ds Max Design 2008, 2009, and 2010 in 32-bit and 64-bit

Welcome to this tutorial on making a shadow matte with V-Ray. To complete this tutorial you will need 3DS Max 2008 or newer, with V-Ray 1.5 and Adobe Photoshop. The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to render out a 3D object, with its shadow included in an alpha channel, so that you can composite the 3D object and it's shadow on top of an existing photograph.
